Newcastle United and Its Funny Moments
Newcastle United has had shared of the news in years and some of them good and some, bad.
The current manage of Newcastle United is one of Europe’s elite managers in the person of Rafa Benitez. And at present, it seems that everything is going to be fine. Now the fans can simply laugh at the occurrences that have happened before, embarrassing perhaps, but laughable at present. These events might have been etched in the fans’ memories and have put a smile upon their remembrances.
IN many headlines in the past, the name Alan Pardew has come up. These headlines vary from the brilliant, to the dreadful, and to the downright hilarious. Pardew is always involved in controversy but this is the worst of it all. It was the match with Hull City when Pardew head-butter Hull midfielder David Meyler. A fine of ?100,000 by Newcastle United, and ?60,000 by the FA was meted out to Pardew for the head-butt!
One of the football lols of Premier League’s history was when two players of their team squared up, which happened to Lee Bowyer and Kierton Dyer. There is supposedly no such thing as fighting with your own team mate because sports is team work and the normal behavior is players on one team fighting with players on the other team. It is common for opposing players to fight. The funny thing is that Dyer and Bowyer were teammates in the Toon Army at that time. The two received red cards for violent behavior after involving themselves in a fight. It was a bad game with the team losing 3 – 0 to Aston Villa at home.
Nobody defeats Newcastle United at home, especially Sunderland. But they lost 3 – 0 to the team at home. However, there was one fan who took the loss seriously and vented all his anger at a poor horse called Bud. Barry Rogerson, the fan, 45 years old, proceeded to taunt that horse and punched its head. This moronic actions led him to serve a year’s jail sentence. The humiliation from this event will follow him for the rest of his life.
Truth be told, Newcastle United has had some very poor managers in their time, but Joe Kinnear is pretty much the worst. Kinnear’s career had so many funny moments although during those times, it was really quite terrible. The most hilarious of all was when he tried to sign someone who already plays for his team. It was during the League Cup game between Swansea and Birmingham that this event occurred. Shane Ferguson, a Newcastle player, was then on loan with the Brummies. Ferguson played a great game and he dominated the midfield. When Kinnear saw him play, he was impressed and said that he was going to sign Ferguson. The press though it was a joke but they soon realized that he didn’t know that Ferguson is a Newcastle player on loan. This is funny indeed!
